About Art Matters
Art Matters is North America’s largest student run Fine Arts festival that takes place every year in March. Since 2000, Art Matters has hosted exhibitions and events across Montreal creating platforms and opportunities for undergraduate artists studying at the University.
HIRING – TRANSLATOR/COPYEDITOR
Eligibility
- Candidates must be registered undergraduate students at Concordia University, with International Students remaining eligible
- Candidates must possess experience with or extensive knowledge of the Art Matters Festival
- Candidates must be able to translate from English to French
- Previous experience in translation and/or copy editing is an asset
Compensation
- The Translator/Copyeditor will receive and honorarium of $1000
Description
- The contract of this position extends from November 2025-April 2026
- The Translator/Copyeditor will work closely with the festival’s Communications Coordinator and Graphic Designer to edit and translate text published by the festival. Key projects will include the festival program, the festival website, and press releases.
- Candidates must be able to dedicate approximately 15 hrs/month from November 2025-April 2026. Correspondence is necessary throughout the contract term for the translation of documents. However, the festival occurs in March and therefore a heavier workload should be anticipated in the couple of months leading up to the festival (December-January)
HIRING – PHOTOGRAPHER
Eligibility
- Candidates must be registered undergraduate students at Concordia University, with International Students remaining eligible
- Candidates must possess experience with or extensive knowledge of the Art Matters Festival
- Candidates must possess or ensure access to a digital camera and a tripod
- Candidates must be able to attend all events of the festival in the month of March as well as another 3-4 events between the start and end dates of the contract
- Experience in photographing events and documenting artwork is an asset
Compensation
- The Photographer will receive an honorarium of $950
Description
- The contract of this position extends from December 2025-April 2026
- The Photographer will be provided a schedule 1 month in advance that details any dates of events they are required to attend. The Photographer will stay for 1-2 hours at each event to document it.
- The Photographer will document the artwork and performances showcased at each exhibition happening in March 2026. The Photographer will arrive 1 hour before the vernissage in order to do this. Afterwards, the Photographer will stay at the vernissage for 1-2 hours to photograph the event.
- The Photographer will send the Communications Coordinator all the photos of events within a week via Google Drive
HIRING – Board of Directors Chair
Eligibility
- Candidates must be registered undergraduate students at Concordia University, with International Students remaining eligible.
- Candidates must possess experience with or extensive knowledge of the Art Matters Festival.
- Candidates must be able to dedicate approximately 5 hrs/month from September 2025-May 2026.
Compensation and Support
- The BoD Chair is paid in two equal installments over the contract’s duration, in a projected total of a $450 honorarium.
- The BoD Chair is offered an email address and ongoing communication with the festival’s coordinating team.
- The BoD Chair will be invited to participate in workshops, events, and training with other team members.
Description
- The contract of this position extends from September 2025-May 2026.
- The BoD Chair will facilitate all BoD meetings. This includes scheduling the meeting, creating an agenda for each BoD meeting and sending all relevant documents to all BoD members.
- The BoD Chair will become familiar with Art Matters Festival Bylaws and Policy Handbook and provide their knowledge of these governing documents at all Board of Directors meetings.
- The BoD Chair will sit on the BoD as a non-voting member and act as a moderator to efficiently lead BoD discussions and votes. The Chair will call all BoD meetings to order as well as adjourn all BoD meetings.
- The BoD Chair will manage the Art Matters BoD email account.
- The BoD Chair will conduct an annual revision of Art Matters’ Bylaws, Policy, and Coordinator Contracts and Coordinator evaluations.

- CV: a resume outlining work experience.
- PORTFOLIO:
- PHOTOGRAPHER: a PDF with links showcasing relevant work (e.g. events you’ve documented, other non-studio photography, etc)
- TRANSLATOR/COPYEDITOR: a PDF demonstrating your writing in both English and French. One page maximum or approximately 400-500 words.
